Good news if you’re a gelato lover — DNAinfo reports that Screme Gelato will soon be opening a new cart in Verdi Square (Broadway & 72nd). Per DNA:

Screme signed a five-year contract with the Parks Department to operate the Verdi Square cart. The food cart, which will be removed from the park each night, will be open around 6:30 a.m. to catch morning commuters rushing into the 72nd Street subway, and close around 6:30 or 7 p.m. Aside from gelato and sorbet, the menu will include organic iced tea, lattes, coffee and cappuccinos, and pastries. Gelato ranges from $5 to $9, lattes will go for $3 and iced tea will sell for $2.

I’m a big fan of the Screme location on Broadway between 69th & 70th, so I’m excited about this cart that will mean I can walk three blocks less to shovel gelato into my face. That said, given that the cart will be closing up in the early evening, I’ll probably have to continue to hump down to their store for dessert — I believe it’s open until midnight. They also have another location at Amsterdam & 94th.

UPDATE: It seems like the cart is going to be open later than originally planned.

If you’ve never tried their gelato, I highly suggest you give them a shot — it’s good stuff.
