Upper West Side Openings Update

Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010

trader-joeslibrary-st-agnesimg_1649Let’s start with an update on one of the most anticipated Upper West Side openings… the Trader Joe’s planned at 72nd and Broadway, while yet to announce an official opening on the Upper West Side, has a date in sight for the completion of renovations, according to West Side Independent.  A chat with City Councilwoman Gale Brewer led to the info that Trader Joe’s will take over the retail space in the building in March and renovations will be completed by August of this year.

Other upcoming openings on the Upper West Side include the St. Agnes branch of the New York Public Library (Amsterdam between 81st and 82nd), which will reopen next week after a two-year, $9.1-million renovation (thanks to West Side Spirit and Twitter tipster @PaulKatcher for the info).  Also, while an opening date has not been solidified, the empty space that previously housed Elite Cafe (Columbus between 68th and 69th) will soon be a new restaurant, Jalapeno Restaurant.  Signs indicate that the restaurant has applied for a two-year liquor license through Community Board 7.  More information on the restaurant’s opening may become available at the Business & Consumer Issues Committee meeting to review the application, scheduled for next Wednesday, February 10th.
