Upper West Side Photos Of The Day: Hawk (Red-Tailed?) Polishing Off Dessert
MyUpperWest reader Ashira snapped this photo of a hawk polishing off something that used to have white feathers (pigeon?). If you’re so inclined, you can click on the photo for a larger version that shows some leftover bits and pieces of whatever the hawk was eating…
Ashira thinks this is one of the Red-tailed Hawks from Riverside Park, but it looks slightly different from other pictures of Red-tailed Hawks that I’ve seen, so I will only commit to calling it a “hawk of some sort.”
Any hawk-watchers/ornithologists reading this want to weigh in? The photo was taken around 96th & Riverside.
UPDATE: Heard from a few people who seem to know what they’re talking about and they’ve confirmed it’s a red-tail. @Wildlife_of_NYC tweeted that it looked like a “young red-tail,” so it could be one of the birds recently born in Riverside Park.
