New Upper West Side Train Station Coming, Location TBD
Metro-North Railroad is currently on the hunt for a location to build a train station in the Upper West Side that will give Westchester county residents a short commute to our neighborhood. Two new stops on the west side of Manhattan are planned for Hudson Line trains that Metro-North will be running, with a final destination at Penn Station. The first is planned for 125th Street (as a bookend to the 125th Street stop on the east side), and the location of the second is undecided, with hopes to finalize a decision by summer. One of the top locations in the running, in the Riverside South residential development (aka Trump Place, located on the far west side from 59th to 72nd), has been ruled out due to the development’s buildings being constructed too close to the tracks for a station. There are still two locations in the running for a second station, either at 57th Street, possibly using basement space at CBS Studios, or on the south side of Riverside Park at 72nd Street. While the Metro-North officials finalize decisions on the train station locations, debate continues about the ideal spot, as well as whether the stations will see enough traffic to be worthwhile.
