time-warner-centerAs the blog Curbed compiles several “Top of the Aughts” lists, we can start to look back at the last decade in New York City to see some of the city’s greatest moments and achievements.  One recent list examines the top 20 real estate deals of the last 10 years, specifically looking at the most expensive individual, single-family home purchases in New York City.  As you might expect to see on the list, the bigger purchases of homes in The Plaza and in mansions on the Upper East Side dominated the list.  But don’t leave our neighborhood out just yet… two of the Upper West Side’s most luxurious and sought-after residential buildings made appearances on the list, comprising five of the top 20 deals.  First, the Time Warner Center, an addition to New York City’s skyline in the past decade, was home to two of the largest deals.  The South Tower’s penthouse went for $37 million (a big discount relative to the $65 million original asking price), while the full 76th and 77th floors of one tower belong to David Martinez for a total cost of $42.25 million.  Another of the Upper West Side’s buildings, the visually stunning Fifteen Central Park West (near 62nd), made the list three times.  A recent $37 million sale of a penthouse in the building made #16 on the list, and the apartment with the largest terrace in the building sold for $42.405 million, making the #12 spot.  But the UWS deal of the decade went to hedge fund king Daniel Loeb, who paid $45 million for his “Tower” penthouse in the building.  Visit Curbed’s “Top of the Aughts” to take a look at the full list of deals of the decade.
