UWS Closing: Reviled Bar/Restaurant/Club Papasito Closed By Court Order

Posted back in November about how Papasito Mexican Grill & Agave Bar (2708 Broadway, between 104/105) was quickly taking the role of “Most Hated Bar/Restaurant On The Upper West Side” since the shuttering of Bar 420 in October (Papasito only opened in September).
So it was really only a matter of time before the seemingly inevitable — they’ve been shut down by a court order.
Thanks to my sister, who sent in the photos above and below.
I’m actually a little behind on the Papasito news, as I’ve been meaning to do a follow-up to the November post for a while. Since then, they’ve had additional run-ins with Community Board 7 and the New York State Liquor Authority. I’m on my way out for the night, but will post an update on Monday about those dealings.
Note, the signs above don’t mean that Papasito is closed for good (although they may well be).
Long-time readers will remember that Bar 420 was plastered with similar legal notices last April but somehow managed to reopen that same night. MUW reader@DaanDoesNY spoke to a bouncer that night and sent in this note:
“I asked the doorman last night – he was like ‘yeah, that’s some bullshit, they just have to appear in court that’s all.’”
One difference is that I don’t believe Bar 420 had the “Closed By Court Order” notice up last year — just the “Restraining Order.”
Whether Papasito manages to reopen in the short-term or not is really besides the point — their days on the Upper West Side are clearly numbered.
