Got a note a little while ago from a reader asking if I had any updates on Big Nick’s, which MyUpperWest first reported earlier this month may be closing.
I just happened upon their Facebook page and noticed that earlier today they posted “Kids Eat Free On Tuesdays.”
The deal is good for kids 12 & under when accompanied by an adult with a minimum $10 check. The offer is dine-in only and there’s a dedicated kids menu.
This discount will apparently be offered every Tuesday going forward, although it’s unclear how much longer Big Nick’s will remain open.
As far as I know, no long-term agreement has been worked out with the building’s landlord, who is looking to raise the rent from the current $40,000/month to $60,000/month.
It’s still conceivable a new lease may be agreed upon, but this promotion strikes me a last-ditch effort to attract more customers rather than a sound long-term business strategy.
There’s been an outpouring of support for the Upper West Side stalwart (it opened in 1962) since news broke about its possible closing, so hopefully this deal helps jump-start business.
Big Nick’s is located at 2175 Broadway, between 76th & 77th. If you have any questions about the deal, you can read them at 212-362-9238.
