CBS police drama Blue Bloods is filming in the neighborhood today. I was out around 7:30 am and production crews had already commandeered a good chunk of Amsterdam Avenue.

The series stars Tom Selleck, Donnie Wahlberg, Bridget Moynahan, and Will Estes — definitely some potential celebrity sighting opportunities if that’s your thing.

Production crews are scattered between 79th & 82nd and West End & Columbus, although from what I saw earlier it appears as though Amsterdam & 80th might be the epicenter.

If you’re not familiar with the show, here’s a quick summary from Wikipedia:

The series follows the Irish-American Reagan family of police officers with the New York City Police Department. Francis “Frank” Reagan (Tom Selleck) is the Police Commissioner. He’s a former Marine and a Vietnam veteran before he joined the NYPD. He’s widowed with four grown children: Danny, Erin, Jamie, and Joseph.

Danny (Donnie Wahlberg) is a top NYPD detective but is sometimes hard-nosed and does not always go by the book. Danny is also a former Marine who saw combat in the Iraq War. Erin (Bridget Moynahan) is an assistant district attorney in Manhattan who prosecutes many of the criminals Danny arrests. Jamie (Will Estes) is a recent graduate of Harvard Law School and is a rookie police officer on the police force after graduating from the police academy. Frank’s middle son, Joe, was an NYPD Police Detective who died in the line of duty.

Blue Bloods has been been filming in Harlem quite a bit recently. There was a stretch last fall when they were on the Upper West Side pretty often as well (here, here, here, & here).
