A fire in an apartment at 711 Amsterdam (between 94th & 95th) injured five and took FDNY more than an hour to get under control last night.
DNAinfo has some photos and the limited details.
The fire started on the third floor of a 26-story building around 6:30 pm. Three people, including a firefighter, were taken to St. Luke’s Hospital. Two others declined medical attention at the scene.
On a side note, I’ve never fully understood the concept of “declining medical attention at the scene.” How can someone determine that you’re actually injured if you’ve declined to be examined?
Either you’re hurt and you need medical attention, or it’s so minor/insignificant that you don’t. Are there really that many people are who are, for example, bleeding from the head, and tell first-responders “nah, I’m good”?
