UPDATE 2:30 pm: Apple Store Reopened But Ollie’s Closed “Indefinitely”+ Additional Photos

I was so engrossed in writing the previous post about Big Nick’s possibly going out of business, I missed multiple tweets, e-mails, and a text from a friend that a massive fire near Broadway & West 67th Street broke out earlier this morning.

It’s unclear exactly when or where the fire started, but it apparently forced the closure of the neighboring Apple Store and possibly the evacuation of several adjacent buildings.

Details are spotty at the moment. Jordan over at 9to5mac.com rounded up some tweets and photos related to the fire, including this note:

As noted by several New Yorkers on Twitter, a fire in a building next to the Upper West Side NY Apple Store has caused the retail store to close temporarily. There was some confusion on Twitter from people who first reported the fire was actually at the Apple retail location, but several since have reported the smoke is coming from an adjacent building. An Apple employee at the location confirmed to us that the fire is in a neighboring building, but also that the Apple Store has been evacuated and all appointments cancelled for the time being.

It’s not clear exactly when the fire started, but I just noticed a text from a friend who lives nearby timestamped at 9:54 am:

FYI there’s a huge fire on 68th between broadway and amsterdam.

MUW reader Drew sent this in at 9:55 am:

There appears to be a fire behind the Kaufman school on 67 and broadway.  There’s TONS of smoke in the area.

@NYCityAlerts tweeted the following at 10:14 am:

Manhattan: Box #0996. 1991 Broadway. All hands working for a fire on the 1st floor of a restaurant with extensions to the 2nd floor. NY01

Ollie’s Noodle Shop is located at 1991 Broadway (between 67th & 68th), in the ground floor retail space of the Bel-Canto condo — no confirmation if this is where the fire started.

UPDATE: Looks like the fire did start in Ollie’s.

Posting this around 11:25 am — not sure if things are under control at the moment.

Can anyone in the area give an update?

H/t to @tgreenleaf for the tip.
