UPDATE 10/1: Turns out this is NOT a new Tasti D-Lite. The one on Broadway has closed and is relocating to the space pictured above sometime in October.

Looks like the neighborhood is getting a new Tasti D-Lite — it will be the fourth location on the UWS.

Oddly, this one is opening barely a block away from another location.

The photo above is from the long-vacant Shelf House space a 523 Amsterdam, between 85th & 86th (thanks to MUW reader Kevin A. for the photo).

There’s already an existing Tasti D-Lite at 2345 Broadway, which is also between 85th & 86th, just one block west.

I stopped by the Broadway location to ask if the Amsterdam store was owned by the same person and the woman behind the counter said no and appeared surprised to learn another TD-L was opening so close.

At least they’re on different avenues.

Regardless, good news if you’re a Tasti D-Lite fan, and it’s nice to see that space finally filled — pretty sure it’s been vacant since I moved to the UWS in early 2010.

Posted last week about Mexican torta (i.e. sandwich) spot El Mitote that’s slated for the old Rigoletto space at 208 Columbus (69th/70th).

NYT had reported it was supposed to open on 9/15, but that’s not the case. MUW readers Nellies and Leigh Ann both report there’s still construction taking place inside (that’s Leigh Ann’s photo below, taken on Saturday).

Looks like you’re going to have to wait a little while longer for your tortas…

Following up on another post from earlier this month… previously wrote that women’s clothing boutique Variazioni had opened in the old Golden Boy Grocery space at 2603 Broadway (98th/99th).

Thanks to readers Marisa and Ann (that’s Ann’s photo below) for pointing out that Variazioni only appears to be using half of the Golden Boy space. No word yet on what may take over the rest of it.

In kinda closing news, if you missed the earlier post, the MTA is doing FASTRACK maintenance again this week. There are station closures and service changes on the B/D (and F/M) lines from 10:00 pm – 5:00 am every night this week until Friday morning.

Finally, I did a rare Sunday night “Openings/Closings” post last night. If you only check in during the week and missed it, you can find it here. Might make this a regular Sunday night feature if there’s enough news to warrant it.
