UPDATE 10/3: A few photos and additional details on Numero 28 Cucina from Thrillist

Posted last month that Lisca Ristorante had closed (660 Amsterdam, between 92nd & 93rd) .

It didn’t take long to find out what’s moving in — Numero 28 is opening their first Upper West Side location.

In addition to having “normal” crust, Numero 28 Cucina will also feature gluten-free pies, which should be a welcome addition to people with dietary restrictions.

DNAinfo recently had a full write-up . The article reports the restaurant was supposed to open this past Friday, but I think tonight is actually their first day of business.

The restaurant has seating for 50 to 60 diners, features a brick oven, and is described by its owner as “rustic.”

Numero 28′s website lists three other locations, although Yelp has listings for a total of five (not including the new UWS outpost).

Ratings on Yelp for the other locations range from three to four stars, with the West Village original (at 28 Carmine Street) averaging a robust four stars from 180+ reviewers.

DNAinfo notes the menu at the UWS location will be more extensive than at other locations, with “lots of seafood options if you don’t want pizza.”

NOTE: DNAinfo reports gluten-free pies may not be available for “a few weeks.”

As Numero 28 opens, a neighboring pizza place recently closed…

In that same DNAinfo story there’s news that nearby Mike’s Pizzeria & Italian Kitchen (654 Amsterdam, at 92nd), a kosher restaurant, recently shuttered.

Koshertopia reports it’s staying under the same ownership and will reopen as a “burger bar” in a few months. So, good news if you prefer meat over dairy.

There’s actually a kid in my building who works at Mike’s, so hopefully I’ll have the inside scoop on additional details as they become available.

While Numero 28′s gluten-free options will be a welcome addition for some, the loss of kosher slices will definitely be a loss for others.

Posted last week that a new Tasti D-Lite was opening at 523 Amsterdam (btw. 85/86), barely a block away from an existing one at 2345 Broadway near 86th.

Despite the fact that an employee at the Broadway location told me she genuinely knew nothing about the Amsterdam location, it turns out the store is actually relocating.

Either it was her first day on the job or she wasn’t the brightest sprinkle in the bin…

The Broadway store is now closed and the Amsterdam Avenue location is slated to open sometime in October (h/t to MUW readers Michael P. and Linda R.).

Finally, if you missed the post earlier, Alamo Drafthouse is officially applying for a liquor license to operate at the long-vacant Metro Theater space at 2626 Broadway (between 99th & 100th).

This is BIG news.
