Catching up on some closing news…
The photo above shows the McDonald’s located at 2049 Broadway (at 71st).
It was recently shuttered and gutted, and it happened almost overnight.
McDonald’s has been renovating many of its stores and it appears as though it’s now time for the West 71st Street location.
This Business Insider article is a bit dated (May 2011), but it gives an overview of the company-wide undertaking.
Signs on the doors and windows say “Closed For Renovation” and I have no reason to believe it’s anything other than just that.
Thanks to MUW readers Kevin and Noah — that’s Kevin’s photo.
As one UWS burger place (temporarily) closes, another is opening.
It’s the same ownership as Mike’s Pizza, just a new concept.
MUW reader @magicjewball reported earlier this that they were doing a soft-open, but that appears to be finished. I just called them (212-362-0700) and was told they’re fully open.
I can’t find a website for the restaurant at the moment, but MenuPages.com does have a menu.
Seems like a boom to those with dietary restrictions. I’ve also heard good things about chef/owner Michael Gershkovich and believe Amsterdam Burger Co. will have appeal even to those who don’t keep kosher.
H/t also to MUW reader Harley
