UWS Openings & Closings: Hot & Crusty, Wok City, Betsey Johnson

Monday, July 2nd, 2012

The Hot & Crusty at 2720 Broadway (104th/105th) seems to have closed suddenly.

This doesn’t appear to be a health department closing, as there’s no DOH signage and the “Business is closed” sign is different than the usual “closed for renovations” signage typical in DOH closings.

MUW reader Harriet sent in the photo above as well as another one showing a sign that reads “50% off on all pastries/bread.” Per Harriet:

“I really liked that place — they always knew my morning bagel order even before I said it. A really nice bunch of people, and great service.”

UPDATE 7/10: Harriet reports Hot & Crusty closed because the landlord tripled the rent

There’s another Hot & Crusty on Broadway, near 88th. I haven’t heard anything about that location closing — if anyone lives nearby and can send in a report either way, please do so.

Speaking of DOH closings… if you missed the post this morning, Chinese restaurant Wok City (153 Amsterdam) was recently shuttered by the Department of Health.

Also from earlier today, the discounts at the UWS Betsey Johnson liquidation were raised over the weekend — they’re now at 60% – 80% off the entire store.

Apologies for the lack of posts today. I’ve got family in town (my brother and his three kids), so things might be a little slower than usual this week. I’m trying to balance MUW with uncle/brother obligations…
