UWS Openings & Closings: Lululemon, Supercuts

Monday, July 30th, 2012

The plywood at the soon-to-open Lululemon at 2139 Broadway (corner of 75th) recently came down an MUW reader top-tipster Kevin A. was there to snap this shot.

Posted last week that the rumored opening date was August 10th, and thanks to some signage spotted in an UWS subway station, that date is looking more and more likely.

MUW reader Lauren snapped the photo below at the 79th Street 1-train subway station. If you look at the bottom-right corner, you’ll note it says “august 10.”

As I often write, opening dates usually moving targets. That said, this seems like a solid indicator they’re shooting for 8/10.

If you’re in the market for a $58 sports bra called the “Ta Ta Tamer,” your wait is almost over.

Note: The Ta Ta Tamer comes with this tagline on Lululemon’s website:

“If ta tas were lions, this sports bra would be the starring attraction at the circus.”

Elsewhere…

Kevin A. also sends in word that the Supercuts at 410 Columbus (between 79th/80th) recently shuttered. This is a prime spot across the street from the Museum of Natural History, so it will be interesting to see what moves in.

In possible opening/closing related news, Vornado Realty recently purchased residential buildings at 50 & 70 West 93rd. Of note:

Vornado was also drawn to the potential to develop retail in the buildings, particularly 70 West 93rd Street, which is on the corner of Columbus Avenue, an important retail corridor on the Upper West Side, and has almost 15,000 square feet of retail space that can be redeveloped. Vornado is one of the biggest and most successful retail landlords in the city.

There could be some openings and closings coming to that corner in the not-too-distant future.
