UWS Openings, Closings, Expansions & Relocations: Harry’s Shoes, The Wine Place, Ritz Camera, TD Bank

Wednesday, May 16th, 2012

Posted back in February that Talbot’s (2289 Broadway, between 82nd & 83rd) gave up half its space due to sagging sales.

At the time, rumors were circulating that Harry’s Shoes, located next door at 2299 Broadway, would expand and take over the space.

Looks like that’s exactly what’s happening.

I walked by the space earlier today (on my way to the “UWS Work From Home Meet-Up”) and there’s signage up indicating Harry’s is indeed expanding.

They’re aiming to open the new space sometime in September.

Harry’s is family-owned, spanning three generations since 1931.

Elsewhere…

Posted last night about a new liquor store opening at in the former 90 Nuts space at 2442 Broadway (at 90th).

It seemed like rather ho-hum news, but there’s more to it… Turns out that liquor store is actually The Wine Place, which is relocating from 2406 Broadway.

Why is it relocating you ask…?

[Insert dramatic pause here]

To make room for a TD Bank.

[Insert groan here]

The Wine Place occupied space in the ground-floor of the condo at 215 W. 88th, as did the recently relocated Ritz Camera. There was also a “Dollar Store,” which is apparently relocating somewhere as well (not sure where).

MUW readers @EllenRF & Amy both report that TD Bank will be combining the three spaces into one larger one.

Must be very exciting news to TD Bank customers who were tired of schlepping to the branches at Columbus & 86th and Broadway & 94th (no word if either of those locations will be closing).

As for non-TD Bank customers, I think I speak for the majority when I say “bleh.”

Finally, as a reminder, it’s Day 3 of the most recent MTA FASTRACK maintenance program. There are major service changes between 10:00 pm and 5:00 am on the B/D trains (F/M too) — click here for full details.

I don’t have an account at TD Bank either, but I actually use them more than my own bank. When I need rolls of quarters to do my laundry, I’ve discovered that TD Bank is open on more days and for longer hours than any other bank around. I go to a Chase ATM for a $20 bill then go to TD Bank for a couple rolls of quarters when Chase itself is closed- which is most of the time
