UWS Photos of the Day: Baby Hawks in Riverside Park

Friday, August 6th, 2010

riverside-park-hawk1It’s a Friday afternoon in the summer, so rather than writing a downer post, we figured we’d give you some warm-and-fuzzies.  Two baby red-tailed hawks were born recently in Riverside Park to the delight of Upper West Side birdwatchers, and DNAinfo stopped by to take some photos of the cuties.  The hawk couple had been closely watched when they were preparing to hatch three eggs this spring, but wind knocked the nest (located near the 79th Street Boat Basin) out of the tree and the hawks lost their babies.  The hawk couple rebuilt, and now the two adorable babies appear healthy and growing normally.  They will likely start learning to fly in a few weeks.  Click through for more of DNAinfo’s photos of the hatchlings.
