Despite the fantastic weather forecast for today and tomorrow (supposed to reach the low-80s each day), fall is upon us and the Upper West Side’s seasonal outdoor cafes are getting ready to pack things up for the year.

Pier I Cafe is one such place — tomorrow (Columbus Day) is set to be their final operating day of the season, according to a manager I traded e-mails with.

If you’re not familiar with it, Pier I Cafe is one of the hidden gems of the neighborhood. Located in Riverside Park South at 70th Street, it has managed to keep a lower profile than Boat Basin Cafe, its perpetually-packed neighbor to the north. While BBC tends to attract people from all around NYC, Pier I has a decidedly more “UWS only” feel to it.

With unseasonably high temperatures and abundant sunshine, it’s a great opportunity to enjoy one last weekend in the sun overlooking the Hudson with a beer or burger. The depths of winter will be here before you know it.
