Fairway is really sliding, while the rat is clearly an unfortunate issue that could happen to any supermarket(face it this is NYC and rats are everywhere), they clearly are not covering the olives, or keeping a clean store. They’ve also stopped valuing customers as they’ve raised prices on many items by unconscionable amounts. Many items have virtually doubled in the past two years as they pay for expansions, a 700 basis point over libor private equity loan and attempt to show higher profit margins ahead of a planned public offering. It’s really unfortunate as only a couple of years ago Fairway was a terrific community asset offering premium products at low prices, but those days are gone.
