05_Flatbed_WEB - JULYThe Corner, the Upper West Side’s new luxury rentals at Broadway and 72nd, is getting even more attention these days, according to The New York Post.  Singer-songwriter Josh Groban was reportedly eying one of the remaining units, the $18,000-per-month 3-bedroom, 2.5-bathroom pad on the 15th floor.  The unit, which measures 1,600 square feet, not counting the 1,000-square-foot terrace (the only wraparound terrace of its kind in the building), includes an eat-in, custom chef’s kitchen, floor-to-ceiling windows and triple exposures.  We will have to wait and see if the luxury home is enough to lure Groban away from his current Time Warner Center pad.

Also checking out one of The Corner’s units was Marian Gaborik, Slovakian right wing for the New York Rangers.  Gaborik, who signed with the Rangers in 2009 after 8 seasons in Minnesota, reportedly stopped by the building twice to view a $16,500-per-month 3-bedroom, 2-bathroom pad on the 16th floor.  With only three apartments still available for rent in the building as of the end of November, and other reports of high-profile people like Serena Williams checking out remaining units, these celebs should act fast before the units are picked up.

In other Upper West Side real estate news, the 535 West End Avenue (at 86th) pad that Matt Damon was originally rumored to have purchased was officially sold.  The 6,637, 6-bedroom, 6.5-bathroom, full-floor home, last listed at $18.9 million, reportedly closed for $17.2 million to an unnamed Singapore industrialist.  Down the street, the townhouse at 41 West 74th Street (between Columbus and Central Park West) signaled a turnaround to the real estate slump with a three-way bidding war.  The 8,175-square-foot, 7-bedrooms, 7-bathroom home, which last sold for $5.695 million in 2006 (and renovated in recent years), was upped to $14.245 million in its most recent asking price.  Reports put an anonymous South American industrialist as the winning bidder, sold by super-broker Dolly Lenz of Prudential Douglas Elliman.  Finally, the unattainable apartment that Sarah Jessica Parker had been rumored to have purchased (it later went back on the market) is holding a “private open house” next week.  The 14-room residence at 88 Central Park West, which was last on the market at $21.5 million, will require open house attendees to sign confidentiality agreements before walking in the door.  Info courtesy of The New York Post.
