UWS Red-Tailed Hawk Eggs Getting Ready to Hatch

DNAinfo reports that two red-tailed hawks living in Riverside Park are waiting for their two eggs to hatch, which could occur any minute now. The pair is well-known among Riverside Park-goers, after moving into the park a few years ago, settling just above the 79th Street Boat Basin. The Urban Park Rangers noticed the hawks incubating around March 10th (it takes about one month of incubating before eggs hatch). Upper West Siders and bird watchers throughout the city are keeping a close eye on the birds and their eggs, hopeful that the babies will hatch safely. Even once the birds hatch, measures of protection will have to be taken to ensure that they do not encounter danger in their early months of life. Read more about the red-tailed hawk family at DNAinfo, and keep your eyes open for the progress of the incubation in Riverside Park.
