Let me preface this by saying that I’m a fan of Screme Gelato — in fact, I already said as much back in June. I’ve been to their store, I’ve been to their cart, and I’ve recommended them to people.

That said… they’re now offering what has to be the worst Groupon I’ve ever seen. Originally I thought it was a typo.

Anyone want to take a guess at what they’re asking for a catered “gelato party” for 75 people?

$500? $600? $700?

Try $1,499… and that’s the DISCOUNTED price through Groupon. The “normal” price for such an event is listed at $3,000!

I’ll do the math for you — $3,000 for 75 people comes out to $40/person. For gelato.

Even at $1,499, it’s still $20/person, which strikes me as insane.

They also have a $2,400 package for up to 150 people and a $3,600 package for up to 250 people — economies of scale drive the price-per-person for the latter down to a still absurd $14.40 ($30.40 without the Groupon).

Groupon FAIL.
