It was big new back in February when UWS P.S. 87 teacher’s aide Gregory Atkins was arrested on charges of sexually abusing a student.
Today comes word of an unrelated incident at a second UWS school, resulting in another teacher’s aide being charged with sex abuse.
35-year-old Hany Abdalla, a teacher’s aide at UWS P.S. 84 (The Lillian Weber School for the Arts), was arrested yesterday for allegedly groping an 8-year-old student and forcing her to touch him. He is charged with sex abuse and endangering the welfare of a child.
Per NYT City Room:
The Education Department said that Mr. Abdalla, an aide at the school since 2007 with no prior disciplinary record, was accused on Monday of making inappropriate remarks to a child. He was then suspended without pay and the case was referred to law enforcement authorities, who turned up the allegation of sexual touching. Mr. Abdalla was arrested on Wednesday, the police said.
“We’ll be getting information out to the parents. This is the normal process we have to follow,” [said Schools Chancellor Dennis Walcott], addressing concerns from parents at the school.
“It’s not an ongoing thing in this city. But one incident is one too many.”
P.S. 84 is located at 32 W. 92nd, between Columbus & Central Park West. The alleged incidents are said to have taken place on school grounds.
