UWS “Unattainable” Apartment: Goldman Sachs Vice-Chair Lists Duplex Penthouse For $26.5 Million

Some pretty fancy digs hit the Upper West Side real estate market last night:
Goldman Sachs executive J. Michael Evans has listed his 5,000 sf, 5 BR/5.5 BA duplex penthouse at The Park Laurel (15 W. 63rd) for a cool $26.5 million.
(NOTE: You could buy three of these and have $8.5 million leftover, or you could buy ONE $88 million apartment at 15 CPW)
The Real Deal reports Evans bought the apartment for $10.3 million 2003 and “primarily used it as a pied a terre from 2004 until 2010, when he was heading Goldman’s Asian operations in Hong Kong.”
Must be nice…
In addition to the penthouse, he’s also selling a separate 2 BR apartment on the 14th floor for a mere $2.75 million.
Here are the listing details of the penthouse:
A CHARLES GWATHMEY MASTERPIECE. On the top 2 floors of the Park Laurel condominium, off a private landing, this trophy property offers luxury at every turn and jaw-dropping 360-degree park & skyline views from every window.
The dramatic living room with 20′ ceilings, centered between the library and dining room seamlessly integrates the staircase, the glass and gunmetal wall and railings, the art wall wine display and the piano which is cantilevered off the balcony. Tiny lights in the ceiling evoke the stars and nighttime views are optimized through windows which have all been replaced with glass designed to eliminate reflection.
A moving bookcase seals off the study (or bedroom) from the the library for privacy, while allowing natural light to the powder room behind it. The library and living room are separated by a stone and steel double sided fireplace.
The chef’s kitchen is furnished with marble counters, top of the line appliances and separate sub zero fridge and freezer.
Two bedrooms, each with ensuite bath and a laundry room complete this floor.Upstairs, the master suite is furnished with a double dressing room and ensuite bath with huge soaking tub, double sinks and large steam shower. Also on this floor are a third bedroom, family room and 2 full baths.
Other features include a fully integrated home Crestron system and central air conditioning. A serene oasis in the heart of the city.
The property is listed through Prudential Douglas Elliman. In addition to the $26.5 million asking price, monthly common charges are $6,642 ($79,704/year). Annual real estate taxes come to $116,136.
On the plus side, the minimum down payment is just 10%.
Here are a slew of photos, including the impressive floor plans (40th & 41st floors):
