Upper West Siders now have an emergency room alternative.  Urgent Care Manhattan, a new urgent care center for immediate medical care, opened on November 27th at Amsterdam and 69th.  The center, founded and owned by two emergency physicians, is the only center in Manhattan staffed exclusively by emergency physicians.  Although fees for medical services are due up-front (those with health insurance can send in paperwork to get reimbursement), the cost of a visit is usually about half that of an ER visit, and insurance copays for urgent care centers are often much less than those for ERs.  Plus, you might be able to avoid the crowding so common at NYC emergency rooms.  Check out the center’s website here.
