Tragic and disturbing story this morning of an Upper West Side woman who was the victim of a completely senseless crime.

Prominent real estate agent and philanthropist Marion Hedges was struck in the head with a shopping cart thrown by two 12-year-old boys from an elevated pedestrian bridge.

DNAinfo and the Post have details on the tragic story. The incident took place on Sunday at the East River Plaza at E. 116th & the FDR. At the time, Hedges was with her teenage son buying Halloween candy at Costco for underprivileged children.

A doctor who was nearby when the crime occurred rushed to Hedges and discovered she was not breathing — he was able to revive her using CPR. She was taken to Harlem Hospital in critical condition.

Police arrested the two boys at a nearby public housing complex after a third boy provided them with details.

Hedges, a mother of two who lives on West 95th, is involved with multiple charities and philanthropic endeavors.

A follow-up story from DNAinfo has some pictures of the walkway where the cart was thrown from. PIX11 filed a video news report from the scene (thanks to MUW reader and frequent tipster Noah for this).
