Wednesday: Opening Night for New York Philharmonic
The 2009-2010 season for the New York Philharmonic kicks off tomorrow with a great concert, the Opening Night Gala. According to the Philharmonic, the “Alan Gilbert era begins in historic fashion with a brand-new, never-before-heard overture written especially for the occasion by Composer-in-Residence Magnus Lindberg. The world-renowned Renée Fleming will then sing exotic Messiaen and the evening will conclude with Berlioz’s spectacular orchestra showpiece.” Tickets are still available at $71-$242, but you could attend a free-to-the-public dress rehearsal at 9:45 am. Just arrive at the Josie Robertson Plaza (Columbus and 63rd) when they give first-come, first-served dress rehearsal tickets out starting at 8:00 am. Also part of the opening day festivities is the Opening Night Gala Benefit, which includes a black-tie pre-show reception, the concert, and a glamorous post-show dinner; the pricey fee for the benefit can be paid by RSVPing here.
