Wednesday’s SciCafe: How Games Make Us Better

a-young-man-plays-grand-t-002-computer-gameCome to the American Museum of Natural History (Central Park West at 79th) for another interesting SciCafe.  The regular event offers a combination of social activity and science with a casual evening of cocktails emceed by experts on cutting-edge science topics.  This week’s SciCafe, “Reality is Broken: Why Games Make Us Better and How They Can Change the World,” features Jane McGonigal, who studies games that require and harness the power of collective intelligence.  Hundreds of millions of people globally- 174 million in the United States alone-regularly inhabit virtual worlds because they provide the rewards, challenges, and victories that are often lacking in everyday life.  Come find out why games are engineered to maximize human potential and how they can change and influence life in the real world.  As with all SciCafe events, admission is free, restricted to ages 21 and up, and a cash bar will be available.
