Some serious yogis are getting ready to compete in the 8th Annual New York & New Jersey Regional USA Yoga Asana Championship, taking place on Sunday on the Upper West Side.  Come to the Merkin Concert Hall at Kaufman Center (67th between Broadway and Amsterdam) and watch competitors test the boundaries of balance, strength, and flexibility.  Hosted by Bikram Yoga NYC (with a location on 72nd between Broadway and Columbus), 34 men and women skilled in the art of yoga will perform 7 poses in 3 minutes,  with 4 finalists (2 men and 2 women) getting the chance to represent their region at the National Yoga Asana Championship in Los Angeles.  The Championship welcomes New York City’s own famed cabaret performer, actor, and comedic pianist, Mark Nadler, as M.C. and Rajashree Choudhury, teacher at Bikram’s Yoga College of India and wife of Bikram Choudhury, as one of the judges. All proceeds from the event will go to HealthCorps, Dr. Oz’s health movement to fight obesity by educating students and communities about healthy living.
