WNET Studios Officially Up and Running
Harriet Flehinger reported through West Side Independent that the new WNET street-level studio on Lincoln Center’s campus (Broadway at 66th) opened yesterday to a big celebration. Politicians like Councilwoman Gail Brewer and TV personalities like PBS TV’s character Angelina Ballerina were on-hand to help welcome the new studio, which is enclosed in glass, allowing shows to be visible to the public from the street. WNET plans to broadcast cultural shows from the studio for two of WNET.ORG’s media outlets, Thirteen and WLIW21, “the most-watched and the third most-watched public television stations in the nation,” according to WNET.ORG’s online press release. The studio will be used to produce the news program Worldfocus along with Thirteen’s weekly arts showcase SundayArts, while the facilities will be used for various purposes. WNET already has a close working relationship with Lincoln Center, collaborating on broadcasts like Live at Lincoln Center and Metropolitan Opera Live. Stop by the new studio to see the new set, or possibly get a moment of fame by appearing on a Thirteen or WLIW21 show.
