New York Historical Society to Open an Italian Restaurant

Wednesday, November 10th, 2010

nyhist1The New York Times‘ Diner’s Journal blog reports that the New York Historical Society (Central Park West at 77th) will be opening a restaurant on its premises.  The restaurant, headed up by restaurateur Stephen Starr (Morimoto, Buddakan), will feature an Italian menu with food in the $35 per person range, an 80-seat space on the ground floor of the building with an installation of the original ceiling mural from Keith Haring’s “Pop Shop” (a gift from the Keith Haring Foundation, which will also help the society show a small Haring exhibit adjacent to the restaurant), and a separate entrance for diners when the society is closed.  The restaurant, part of the society’s three-year, $65 million renovation, will be open for lunch, dinner, and brunch, featuring chicchetti (Venetian-style small plates).  While the operator and overall vision of the restaurant has been decided upon, a chef has not yet been named.  Read more about the new restaurant at the New York Historical Society at Diner’s Journal.
